Snacktastic

Guys! I have recently gotten into a new afternoon snack that is absolutely delicious (not to mention filling).  Warning: it doesn’t look particularly appealing, but I PINKY PROMISE that it looks are deceiving in this case.  All you need is cottage cheese, your favorite nut butter (I’ve recently been addicted to Low Sodium Better N’ Peanut Butter, a low cal peanut butter alternative), a small handfull of almonds.  Mix these protein packed ingredients in a small bowl, drizzle with agave nectar, and voilá, you have a simply delicious, not to mention healthful snack.

Addicting!

This morning, as I was perusing the NYTimes Style Section online, I came across this wonderful video.  Last summer, my apartment was literally 2 blocks from the Union Square Green Market.  I loved looking at all the fresh produce, flowers, and, of course, the fashion of the always stylish market-goers. Feebily attempting to be a real city gal, I would even wear a fedora when I went to the market.  Oh those were the days.  This little clip made me miss Union Square so so much…

On another note, I desperately want to see the documentary Bill Cunningham New York, a film about the very fashion commentator featured in this video! If only movie theaters in Williamsburg would show it… I’m looking at ya New Town Regal Cinemas…

Happy Birthday Mama Mia

Tomorrow is my momma bear’s birthday, so this weekend has been all about her!  Last night, my whole fam went to the Brad Paisley/Blake Shelton concert (my brohas were none too excited- Travis actually listened to his i-Pod the entire time.  So angsty).  I had a fantastic time for two reasons: 1. Brad Paisley melts my heart.  See some of his lyrics here… I die.  2.  Country music concerts are THE BEST place to people watch.  I channeled the T-Swift look for the event, wearing a floral sun dress and even donning my cowboy boots.  However, I was outdone by many of my fellow concert-goers.  For example, one man wore a functioning lamp shade on his head.  He literally lit up the night.  Two drunky drunk college boys had on cut-off American flag button downs and were getting jiggy with it like nobody’s business (see this vid for a demo- but then think of a white boy interpretation, and you got it!).  There were several shouts of “yee-haw,” and fist pumps abounded (don’t confuse the country music fist pump with the Jersey Shore style fist pump.  The country music fist pump requires that you clench your hand in to a fist, move your hand in a downward motion like you are starting a lawn mower, and then, with all of the patriotism you can muster up, you thrust your fist into the air in one glorious movement, often time letting out a big cry of “yee-haw” or “Amurricaa”)   It was definitely a fun night; however, today’s birthday festivities were much more to my liking.

My mom, sister, and I spa’d it up at Great Wolf Lodge, a resort here in Williamsburg. First things first, we got our relaxation on in the serenity room, sipping on hot tea out of these itsy bitsy cups (very serene) and rocking the robe look.  After about 15 minutes of relaxing (read: playing Word Mole on my BlackBerry), I was whisked away by Katharine, the facialist/zen goddess, for a deep cleansing facial treatment.  So yummy. Following the facial, I had a relaxing massage.  The concept of a relaxing massage is weirder than weird to me, because back in my running days in high school, I endured crazy deep tissue sports massages that left me bruised.  Let’s just say this was a welcome change!  I left the spa feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!  Gotta love mooching off of other peoples’ birthdays.

Sending you a virtual piece of birthday cake. Is this Southern Style Red Velvet Cake not gorgeous?

"by 19, i had found my look. oversize t-shirts, bike shorts, and wrestling shoes. to prevent the silhouette from being too baggy, i would cinch it at the waist with my fanny pack. i was pretty sure i would wear this look forever. the shirts allowed me to express myself with cool sayings like ‘there’s no crying in baseball’ and ‘universität heidelberg,’ the bike shorts showed off my muscular legs, and the fanny pack held all my trolley tokens. i was nailing it on a daily basis. find something like this for yourself as soon as possible."

Umm… dying. How delish does this look? I am a carrot cake gal, tried and true.  It is my ABSOLUTE favorite dessert.  Usually I leave the carrot cake baking to the folks at Carrot Tree, a quaint bakery in my hometown of Williamsburg, but I must admit that their colossal carrot cupcakes topped with rich cream cheese frosting are quite the indulgance.  So, this weekend, I plan to take the baking into my own hands, trying out this more healthful recipe I found in Fitness Magazine.  I’ll let you know how it goes- fingers crossed!

Things I Wish….

Things I Wish….

-I was with my family sailing the seas and eating excessive amounts of ice cream

-I had some endearing accent (preferably British)

-That term papers ceased to exist

-That I had fresh flowers in my room

-That I could speak French and wear fanciful berets without looking ridiculous
